Question What advice would you give to a highschool senior looking to pursue a career in photography?
Answer Jessica,
First learn all you can about shooting. Get an idea of what kid of photography you really love: fashion, sports, news, portraits, product, etc.
Doing trades is the best way to start getting compensated for your work. Do you need a pair of glasses? Go to an optomitrist's office and tell him you'll do a store layout in exchange for a pair of glasses. If you have a great photo that would look great in a fancy restaurant, tell them you'll trade to photo for meals. This is absolutely the best way to start. If you live in a small town, try to submit photos to your local paper. Go to your HS football games, take some great action shots and try to sell them to the team. Go to Little League games, ballet schools, ice skating rinks, etc. you get the idea.
