AboutMartin Seymour Expertise I have worked in most aspects of still photography, using film and the wet process for 50 years. Employing all film formats 35mm to 8x10 sizes, I went over partly to digital cameras in 02, also PC editing of pictures.
I still find film work more demanding , as you have to get it right at the start with no auto settings on the camera to cover my mistakes.
Pictorial work is my personal interest.
Its is not a good idea for me to suggest a particular make of equipment just a type, and its uses.

Question Hello,
I am considering trading-in my Nikon F3 camera and many lenses and go 'all-digital'. I also have a Mamiya medium format I may get rid of, too. I enjoy taking photos of landscapes and primarily use the Mamiya for that but was curious: what number of pixels should a digital camera have in order to make an excellent 16x20 print? I want a clear, sharp photo.
I have a Nikkor 24mm which is a great lens: Do you recommend buying a Nikon digital so that I can stll use my Nikon lenses?
Thanks for any info,
Gus

Hi Gus
If you enjoy working with the equipment that you have and are getting the results that you expect why change?
I assume you are thinking of going to a Nikon digital body and using the currant collection of lens, though I believe that the lens are interchangeable you probable will not get all the advantages of the true digital lens such as auto focus and metering etc. but check with Nikon on there www site about compatibility.
You will have to go for the highest – 6m pixels but I fear you will not get quite the quality that you are used to from the film camera. At 20x16.
And of course you will need the software to edit the work and a printer to do the enlargements start reading all you can about the subject before spending all that cash.
