Subject: photographic distortion...

Question
I've taken slide film of paintings and the results show a warping effect. The tips of the vertical rectangular canvas show a distortion.

Why do you think this happens? And how can I fix it?

Thanks!

Answer
Jim,

Shooting artwork is very, very difficult.  You need to shoot with a normal lens (not wide angle), with a tripod and you must be dead on straight to the painting.  If you are, even a tad, to the left, right, high or low you will get a distortion.

There is an entire photo specialty of shooting art work.  It's trial and error.  Also, getting the colors correct is another nightmare.  You may have better luck with digital, there's more color control after the fact.

Good luck.

Mark
