Subject: Bone Bruise?

Question
About two weeks ago I was drilling through some galvanized pipe when the drill got hung and spun around whacking me in the wrist.  My wrist bruised pretty quickly, swelled a little and has since returned to normal.  I was wondering how long the aching painfulness of it should last?  Writing, typing, using my mouse, and sometimes carrying stuff seems to aggrevate it a bit.  Should I be concerned that it could be something more than a bone bruise?  Thanks!

Answer
Sara Thank you for the question.  Your symptoms sound like a bone bruise which is very common with blunt trauma to the wrist as the bones are very superfisial.  However, if you find that your discomfort is persisting I truly suggest you consult an orthopedist to make sure nothing else is going on!

Good Luck,

Jeffrey De Bellis, PT, MS, OCS
