Question
the combined resistance of galvanometer of resistance 1000ohm and it's shunt is 25ohm.Calculate the value of shunt.

Answer
For resistances in parallel the inverse of the total resistance is equal to the sum of the inverses of the separate resistances:
1/Rt=1/R1+1/R2
In this case:
1/25=1/Rs+1/1000
Therefore, the resistance of the shunt resistor Rs must be:
Rs=1000*25/(1000-25)=25.64 ohms
