Physics/How many rads are lethal?

Hi! In a video game ''Fallout 3'' the player character will drop dead after having absorbed 1000 rads? How realistic is this number and how lethal is 1000 rads when all of it is absorbed in 1 second and when it is absorbed in let's say 60 days?

If someone gets a dose of 1000 rads in 1 second, they will die but not right away. It might take a week or more.  If you got it over a period of 60 days, it probably wouldn't kill you since the body can recover some.  The mid-lethal dose ( which will kill 50% of the people exposed to it) is 500 rads in a short period of time.
