Quantum physics has proven that matter does not exist (matter is an illusion). Thus if we humans are matter, does this mean that we don't exist. If so, then why do we see ourselves as physical if we are not physical. What causes us to not perceive reality as it is?

Quantum physics has proven no such thing.  What bad reference did you get that information from?  Quantum mechanics is a framework of rules (physical models with mathematical relationships) by which matter and energy behave.  Also, how could "we see ourselves" if we did not exist?

There are many things in the quantum world which are fundamentally different than we assume, but that's because we operate almost exclusively on a large and macroscopic scale.  On the microscopic scale, where individual particles must be considered, the weirdness of quantum mechanics becomes apparent when it clashes with out classical notions.  However, none of it proves that matter does not exist.

I moved on to a non-academic job with more research just recently.
