Piano, Organ, and Keyboard/digital vs. traditional piano?

Question
I would like to start playing the piano again -- the first step is to buy a piano.  I live in a townhouse, so I was considering a digital piano because I can plug in headphones and play whenever I want without worrying about disturbing family or neighbors. I don't care about the different sounds or other high-tech options that go with the digital pianos. I've tried a few digital pianos, and they do have a piano feel. But I love the feel, the sound, the simplicity, the expressiveness of a traditional piano, and I'm worried that I won't get that in a digital piano.  What are your thoughts?  Could someone who loves a traditional piano be happy with a digital version?

Answer
That's an interesting question Kriss. I too love the feel and sound of a traditional piano. Whenever I have a chance I'd much rather play on a 'real' piano not a digital.

That being said, yes, I think you can be happy with a digital. Especially if you know that you can't have a traditional piano.

The trick is to get one that has a great sound and a feel that you like. Each one is different and I can't tell you which one you will like better.

I've played on some digital pianos that I really like. They have weighted keys and good aftertouch. Don't skimp on the number of keys either, you won't be happy with a shorter keyboard. Insist on a full 88 keys, weighted keys and a high quality sampled sound.

One thing you can look for is a keyboard that will play soft when you want it to and loud when you want to. You shouldn't have to work at getting the keyboard to do what you want it to.

Hope this helps!
