Piano, Organ, and Keyboard/Chickering piano made in 1978

I am considering buying a 1978 Chickering piano...ebony baby grand in like-new condition .  It is for sale at a very respectable piano store in San Francisco.  We are aware of the negatives of Chickering from this time period but this one seems to be an exception.  The price is $5700.

What do you think?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Grace:

I need to know a few things:

1. is it in original condition?

2. have you had it inspected by a registered member of the piano technicians guild. If not...this is your first step. Got to http://www.ptg.org and find YOUR OWN tech and not one affiliated with the store!!!!!

This is NOT a chickering! It is a piano built by Aeolian in East Rochester New York who had the right to put the Chickering name on it.

These pianos had many issues not the least of which was weak pin blocks.

And that price is more than it went for new.

You would do better with a new Kawai! There would be no question marks and a 10 year guarantee.

A warrantee from a dealership is worth no more than the dealership!!!!
