music mate
Hi Thomas, i got a music mate keyboard laying around for year now, i stoped palying it beacause one of the octaves stoped working, i realized that the problem was one of the integrated circuits, but the serial number on it got scratched,  in ALL of them as a matter of fact,  i dont know much about this so i don't know what kind of IC does this keyboard needs,  i hope you can help me, i really miss playing that keyboard.

best regards.

Answer
Hello Ivan!  The MusicMate keyboard was introduced back in 1984 by Sequential Circuits Incorporated (SCI).  My last contact for them was 3051 North First, San Jose, CA 95134, 408 946 0226.  Typically, instruments of this age used a diode matrix to key the keyboard.  However, if the keying does use IC's I suspect the chips may be multiplexers such as the 16 pin 74C151.  In any case, the first thing to check is the power supply for proper voltages just to make certain there is not more than one problem going on.  I will need to refer you to some websites which specialize in early keyboards and are likely to have schematics available to assist you in the repair.
