We are trying to sell the contents of our Mom's house. We have a 1925-1930 parlor baby grand Chickering piano to sell. The soundboard is cracked unfortunately. Inside the base there is a number : 147689. Can you give us an idea of what it's worth? I've enclosed a photo

Answer
Hi Carol:

By the time your piano was built, 1928, the Aeolian factory had already bought and moved Chickering to East Rochester NY.

In all likely hood, this design is not an original Chickering.

All sound boards crack sooner or later. It's the soundboard to rib structure we are more concerned with.

And, Aeolian pianos of this age have their issues.

I would ask 3,000.00. The buyer may want to bring in their technician and that's fine. Just make sure the technician is a card carrying REGISTERED member of the piano technicians guild.

Offer NO warranty either written of implied and see where it goes.

Keep me posted.
