Piano, Organ, and Keyboard/Technics EN4 midi

Question
Hi Thomas

I have a problem with my recently purchased second hand Technics EN4 – when I attach a midi cable to to the ‘out’ socket it doesn’t send any signals to my computer – if I connect the same cable to my Yamaha PSR79 keyboard the signal reaches the computer and I can play my virtual organ on the computer – do you think there is something wrong with the midi on my EN4 or is there a setting I need to adjust on the organ – your advice would be much appreciated – Peter White

Answer
Hello Peter!  I suspect the Technics EN4 is not configured properly for the computer to "see" the MIDI data.  Therefore, either the Technics EN4 MIDI output or the computer's MIDI input has to be reconfigured in such a way for them to match correctly.  One way or another, I think you have a configuration mismatch.  I recommend reading the owners manual belonging to the MIDI devices, to make the correct configurations so they can talk to each other.  The complicating factor is, there is a configuration for both MIDI "in" and MIDI "out" on both devices...so all four settings have to be in agreement to send and receive.
