Piano, Organ, and Keyboard/Digital piano losing power

Question
Hello. We have a Kawai digital piano which we gave had for 5 years from new. However recently it has developed a fault where we will switch on the piano and play a few keys, then the piano will lose power and seems to switch off. We can switch it back on but the same thing happens. Your advice in what the problem might be would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Answer
Hello Laureen!  The problem can be due to a number of reasons, but the first suspect would be the power supply.  Computer processors require very specific voltages to operate properly.  If the voltages are not correct, the CPU can become erratic.  The 5 volt supply is usually the most critical voltage.  The power supply that produces it does have an adjustment, but if the power supply is going bad, adjusting the supply will likely not help for long.

I suggest you contact Kawai directly for directions for rebooting your instrument to rule out software corruption.  Otherwise, they can direct you to the closest center to troubleshoot the problem.  You can reach them at http://www.kawaius-tsd.com/
