Piano, Organ, and Keyboard/piano value

I am donating a used Wurlitzer piano and bench in good condition for school/church use. I found the # 1511328 on back of piano.  Can you estimate the value of this donation.
Thank you.

Hi Bruce:

The configuration of the piano is key here.

Is it a vertical or grand? If vertical, how high (model number). If grand...how long?

With that I can estimate it's worth.

However, please keep in mind, to make this legal for you and the IRS, you really need something in writing...an appraisal so to speak.

I can estimate it's worth, but upon an IRS audit...that won't suffice!

If you take the normal IRS amount for donations, this won't get it for you either.  You would have to itemize your donations. If you itemize, then we're  home free except for that appraisal.

The appraisal should be done with someone with credentials as in the case of a Registered Piano Technician from the Piano Technicians Guild. This will pass the IRS scrutiny should one arise.

You can go on http://www.ptg.org and put in your zip code where it says "locate a technician". I quick inspection and written report will keep you safe!

Again, I can ballpark you an amount, but this won't be formal enough for the IRS since I am not the inspector.

Let me know how you do!
