Question
Technics SX-G7
Technics SX-G7
Hello I have a Technics Organ SX-G7 and would like to be able to plug a computer into it (MIDI) so I could use and access some of the organ software, such as Hauptwerk, so i could use other organ sounds on my organ. Can this be done? There are no midi ports that I am aware of on this spinet model. There is a port to connect a floppy disk drive. Is there any way I can "midi" this orgam without too much ttouble or work? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hello Darryl,  MIDI consists of a unique universal serial data stream which allows devices outfitted with MIDI to communicate with each other.  Although the Technics organ has digital functions to run some of its features, it is not MIDI capable (unless a MIDI interface has been added either from the factory or by some after market means).

There are two ways of adding MIDI: 1) via parallel wiring from the keyboard(s) to a MIDI interface which converts parallel inputs into a single serial MIDI output, or 2) an interface which converts an organ's proprietary serial data to MIDI data.  The latter is usually available from the manufacturer who built the organ, while the former is available from a number of companies who specialize in building MIDI interfaces and MIDI compatible equipment.

Because Technics is a brand name of the Panasonic Corporation, you can start your inquiry with their technical support or you can contact MITA (Music Instrument Technician Association) for help:  http://mitatechs.org/public_splash2
