Hi Ralph,

I have a W.P. Haines & Co. Spinet Piano, and I am trying to find out when it was made and such. The serial number is 16730, which I located on the back of the piano in the left-hand corner.

Any information and help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Payton:

The looks like a Haines that was manufactured by Winter.

I think there may be a digit missing from your serial number. Please check again.

If you look at the name Haines on the plate you will notice it isn't really part of the plate, rather an application of the name.

That usually means this piano had several names and this time Winter decided to put Haines because they owned the name. It was a marketing strategy.

The furniture suggests somewhere in the 1940's.

See if you can figure out the serial number problem and get back to me.

Look around on the plate as well.

If it is stamped into the wood, sometimes a digit is not stamped well.
