I inherited a piano from my mother that she bought in the 1980s in Montana.  She had it moved here but it is so heavy. I am trying to give it away but would like to know more about it to tell people.  It has a number etched wood several place of 55051

Hi Mary:

Gilbert goes back a ways, and was discontinued in 1868. However, the name was used by several successors.

Your serial number is just passed the last listed of 46000 in 1913.

Full upright pianos of this vintage generally have age related issues. The monetary value of this pianos is nominal at best.

In the best of condition it would be worth around 200.00 tops.

I would put it on Craigslist and make sure that whoever takes it sends a qualified piano mover. Three guys, daddy's pick up and a six pack of beer is a recipe for disaster.

So, give it away with no warranty, either written or implied, as is.

Good luck!
