Piano, Organ, and Keyboard/Type of piano

Hi Ralph, my question is about a Kimball Whitney Piano.  I have  a chance to purchase a Kimball Whitney Upright Piano with a serial number of S72894.  I am looking for an upright to put a PianoDisc system in.  Is this Kimball Whitney a "Spinet"?  The PianoDisc will not work in a Spinet Piano so I don't want to buy something that won't work with the system.  I am told it is in very good condition and is in tune.  Been played daily and the photos show no damage or even ware.  Of course I will have to purchase it sight unseen or not tested but for $175.00 plus the 200.00 it cost to move it, if it is the right size I believe I will be getting a bargain.  Can you help me on the type piano it is and its age.  Thank you.  Vince

Hi Vince...

And whoa!

The piano disc system will be worth 100 times what the piano is worth and beat it to death to boot.

If you have your heart set on an upright with a piano disc...I would keep looking for something a bit younger...say not older than 20 years, and a studio console...something around 48" high.

I would think a Kawai, or a Charles Walter would be a better purchase than a Whitney...and yes, they were usually spinets!

One more thing...please don't purchase a piano, especially one you intent to enhance with a piano disc, sight unseen. They usually tend to be the wrong choice.

Instead, keep looking and when you find something you think is a good buy, have a local, registered piano technician go out and verify the piano's viability.

You can find registered technicians all over the country by going to ptg.org. You can plug in the zip code of the location of the piano to find a tech.

Keep looking and keep me in the loop. I'm here to help.
