Question
Thomas, I was just given a Lowrey Magic Genie 88 Model TG 88-1. My problem is NONE of the A notes will play or sound out on the top or bottom keys, not even the bass pedal in A. These is the A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6 and A7  Everything else works great. Any ideals?

Answer
Hello Mike!  There are two common reasons why the organ is behaving this way: 1) one of the top frequency dividers is bad, or 2) the TOS chip is not producing the "A" pitch for the organ. My guess is, the latter is the problem.
The "top octave generator" which produces all of the top octave pitches for the organ is not producing the top "A". These pitches are then sent through a series of frequency dividers which systematically create all the octave pitches below, all the way down through the pedal pitches. The fix for this will be to determine whether the problem is the TOS chip or a frequency divider. The best tool to do this would be a signal tracer. An ocilloscope would also work. Finding the part could prove to be elusive since the chips have been out of production for many years. Some organ techs may still have a stash of these IC's and could make the repair in short order.
