Question
This organ hasn't been used in 15 years. It turns on but unless it takes a long time to warm up, there's NO SOUND AT ALL. I was wondering if there is someplace where someone mean could have sabotaged it"turned it off"?

Answer
Hello J!  Some electronic components when not charged for many years tend to go bad.  15 years is certainly long enough to create a problem.  Therefore, I doubt sabotage is a factor.  My guess is, the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and amplifiers are at fault and will need to be replaced.  Also, there could be issues with corrosion on the many connectors.

When electrolytic capacitors go bad they can begin to short and behave more like resistors.  When this happens, they start drawing current from the power supply in amounts large enough to cause fuses to blow.  When this happens, replacing burned fuses without correcting the cause risks further damage to the circuitry.  Therefore, the organ should be evaluated by a organ tech who is familiar with Thomas technology.

One word of caution: Home entertainment organs have little or no value, particularly if they do not work.  It is likely the repair costs will exceed the instrument's value.  Keep this in mind when eliciting technical assistance.
