Piano, Organ, and Keyboard/Value of my baby grand piano

QUESTION: I need to know the value of my Cable and Sons baby grand piano. I am not sure which of these numbers is the serial number- 17292 or 156877. Thank you.

ANSWER: Hi Deborah:

I'm going with the 156877 number and it was made in 1932.

The value is a difficult thing. This piano is 83  years old and certainly has are related issues.

Without an evaluation, I would ask 1500.00 and offer it with no warranty of any sort either written or implied.

Or...you can go to http://www.ptg.org and look up a registered technician in your area.

A better, more accurate number can be placed on the piano after its internal condition is determined.

QUESTION: When I had it tuned about 20 years ago, the tuner said she was unable to tune it to where it should be. Based on this information, what do you think the value would be? Also, do you think the keys are ivory? They are not solid white as the pianos are now, they are a yellowish marbled like color.  Thank you.

Hi Deborah:

First...there was no plastic in 1932. They are ivory unless they were replaced.

Ivory keys have "seems" in them where plastic is all one piece. Also, Ivory has a decided "grain" pattern. I think your keys are ivory and that does not lift the value in any way.

With regard to what your "tuner" said...if they are not a registered technician with the piano technicians guild, I disregard anything they say.

You need to get the piano looked at by a REGISTERED member of the piano technicians guild.

You can go to http://www.ptg.org and look up a certified technician in your area.

Let me know how you do.
