Question I have several tv guides with the beatles on the covers. I don't want to rip the covers off. I want to frame them. Do they have frames that will fit a whole tv guide? Something maybe that has an opening at the top?
Answer Hi Janice,
The way you worded your question, I'm assuming that you want to know if there are any ready-made frames that will work to frame your TV guides. To be honest with you I'm not sure. I don't deal in very many ready-made frames. If that is what you are indeed looking for; you will need to try some of the large hobby stores that offer framing. For example, Michaels and Hobby Lobby are two stores we have in our area. They tend to carry more ready-made framing and it might be possible they would have something that would work. Now a couple of warnings against ready-made frames for items that you want to preserve. Most ready-mades don't come with conservation glass. Light is the most damaging element to paper. Especially paper that things like magazines are printed on. The paper itself is not very archival in the first place. Second for the most part ready-mades don't come with conservation matboards. That is another important aspect to preserving artwork. The next consideration is going to be how the magazine will be mounted in the framing package. If you were to bring your TV guides to me to be framed. The way I would mount them would be to wrap all but the front page in acetate. That will allow me to glue your magazine to matboard or backing depending on what framing design we chose without using any kind of adhesive on the actual magazine. The question comes down to how important the preservation of these TV guides are to you. If the preservation is a priority you might consider taking them to a reputable frameshop in your area to get them framed. It will be more expensive however the long term benefits will definitely out way the cost. If you are less concerned with the actual preservation then try some of the hobby stores and see what is available. I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you have any other questions or need further clarification. I wish you the best which ever direction you decide.
