I have owned my own retail custom frame shop for 5 years, and managed a high-end shop before that for 5.5 years. Answer
Hi Julie,
So sorry for my late reply...   I was on vacation and forgot to set my account to auto-reply.

So, sadly you had to wait for my answer and now I don't have great news to share.  Art appraisal is not my area of expertise, so I cannot offer any insight as to the value of the Gilbert piece you acquired.  I would call your local museum and ask for a name of a reputable art dealer or appraiser in your area, or someone to whom you could place a call and give the piece details.

Best of luck!
Sara
