Pilates - allegro sport vs IQ

Expert: Nuala COOMBS - 9/28/2009

Question
I am NASM certified and Spin certified and want to eventually open up a pilates studio.  I am looking to purchase something for the home first.  I have taken classes and love the reformers.  My main concern is I am 5'11 and my husband is 6'4.  I don't really know how much he will be on it, but would like to have the option.  Also is there anyway that if I got the IQ that a platform can be attached (home use only still). My husband is very handy in building things or should I just get the Allegro Sport even though it doesn't telescope is it easy to store up against the wall?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Karina

First, apologies for the late response, I have been away and without my computer.  Congratulations on making a good decision about a Pilates studio.  Investing in Pilates equipment is a long term choice and so I recommend you get the best and most professional equipment you can afford, rather than buying home equipment and then replacing it later - double expense.

If however, you have space issues at home it may be that starting with a home piece makes sense and you will certainly get your practice hours in - you can also easily take practice clients to hone your skills.  Height for you or hour Husband will not be an issue both pieces are the standard length.

Both the IQ and Allegro sport are great pieces and yes the allegro can be stored standing up - just check your ceiling height.

If these are your two options then either is good - although with the sport you can add a tower if you choose.

good luck with any new business venture.
