As with any dog, a pitbull is only as mean and agressive towards you and others as it is raised.  What I mean is that if a pitbull is mistreated, beaten, or neglected, it may have the tendency to snap, bite, growl, or such to anyone.  However, this also pertains to all dogs.  If any dog is mistreated in any way shape or form it will be more likely to have undesirable tendencies towards others.  I firmly believe that the horror stories of children being bitten are from the dog being mistreated or the child not being properly supervised or taught that there are certain things you can't do to a dog and that there are certain ways to treat a pet.  I raised a full blooded pit and he was a what I called a big baby.  But he was raised that way.  He was about 100lbs with a head about 10 in in diameter.  Standing on his hind legs he was about 5ft 10 in tall, but, and I promise this, I would trust him to watch my children (1yr and 3yr) before I would trust a lot of adults!

Brooke, she doesn't need to be concerned. I'd be questioning why the dog bit in the first place if I was you.

I can answer questions regarding basic grooming and care of the American Pit Bull Terrier, as well as questions regarding several different training methods. I can answer some basic medical questions, however, I am not a veterinarian. If the questions asked of me are beyond my realm of knowledge, I will gladly redirect to you to another source that may be more helpful or more appropriate.

I am the proud owner of three wonderful American Pit Bull Terriers. In addition to working with my dogs daily, I am around other "bully breeds" on a regular basis. I am also a member/supporter of several pro-pit bull, anti-Breed Specific Legislation groups.

My area of study in college is not related to animal health and behavior in any way. All of the experience or education I have in regards to the American Pit Bull Terrier comes from direct contact with the breed, my veterinarian, and handlers/trainers that I am acquainted with.
