Pittsburgh Steelers/Steeleretts

Question
I was a steelerette in the 1970s around 1974 with a group of 15-20 women for two years led by a woman from Texas who lived in Mt. Lebanon.  We wore white vests with fringe, white short shorts, white high boots.  Chuck Noll was the coach he did not want us at all, they keep us in the end zones and we danced at half time and prior to the game.  After 2 years we were let go.  How come we are never mentioned?

Answer
Kathleen:

I'm not sure if it was you I have had previous contact with but another member of the Steelerettes. However, life is completely different in Steeler Nation today than it was when you were considered a part of the team. With other cheerleading squads like the Dallas Cowboys have, the desire for cheerleaders in Pittsburgh has waned completely. In fact, most Steelers fans today are very strong in their opinions about having a cheerleading team for the Steelers. With that said, Steelers fans today are so removed from the idea that many probably don't even realize that your team existed. Perhaps Chuck Noll is to blame for that ideology of not having cheerleaders but there are those that know of your existence.

So, if you would like, I can dedicate a spot on my web site to the Steelerettes if you like and you and other former members can contribute on a regular basis and provide me with photos. I know there is a web site already but I have a regular following and you would get attention that way.

Let me know what you think.
