In 1980 the NFL players competed in the Football Strongest Man Contest at Auburn University. The overall winner of the event was Mike Webster who weighed 267 lbs. at the time. John Kolb finished second he weighted 276 lbs. The lifts contested were the jerk from the rack (275 for max reps), bench press (350 for max reps), squat (500 for max reps), power curl 250 for max reps), and dead lift (500 for max reps).
Interestingly, was Lyle Alzado weight at that time 255 lbs. finished well down the list and was unable to bench press 350 for any reps and jerked overhead only 275 for 4 reps. The next year he comes back at 300 lbs. and dominates the competition. You know the tragic story on him.
