Plant Diseases - Bamboo Leaves

Expert: kathy crowley - 7/1/2009

Question
We noticed that we have hundreds of bees drinking sap from the tops of our Bamboo leaves and just wanted to check that the sap on the leaves is normal and not a reaction to the plant being harmed in some way by insect or disease. Otherwise quite happy for the bees to enjoy themselves.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Tracy,  They are finding that mason bees like to live in bamboo shoots, and are making homes for them now.  So I have to guess that some of the tips of your bamboo are broken off in the wind and they have built a home in them.  Wow the bees are showing us how they want us to build homes for them.  We need our bees for sure.  Kathy
