Plant Diseases - Old Fashion Rose Bush

Expert: kathy crowley - 7/3/2009

Question
have a 25+ year old rose bush.  a few years back all plants in that area were accidently killed by electric line sprayers.  this year i discovered two 10 ft. "garden hose sized" shoots coming from base of old rose bush.  got a lot of new growth and about 100 buds!  buds swelled so you could see pink and smell this very beautiful fragrance then petals turned brown and died and roses never opened.  leaves and branches still look good. what's wrong?  I'm sick about it, since it survived, amazingly.

Answer
Hi Nancy,  It could be the new Chilian Thrip that is causing havoc with roses the last few years.  I started using Atomic Grow on the antique roses and they have never looked so beautiful, bug free, and tons of blooms.  It is totally organic and easy to apply.  You will want to spray everything in site even if they look good as they will get even better. Many nurseries in our area sell only in the winter when they have the least problems, I sell mine year round and do not have to use any other product on them.  I have never had so many blooms.     kathy
