Question Hi, I had breast reduction 4 weeks ago. The left breast has healed nicely. The right one keeps having a lot of fluid, which my doctor has been draining out for the last 3 weeks. Is this a common thing? The Doctor does not seemed to upset by it, but I am. I am worried that it will not ever heal and worry about infection, I am on an antibiotic. Thank you, Karen
Answer Hi Karen,
There's more about breast reductions at www.bodysculpture.com.
It's actually not unheard of to have fluid accumulate and then drain out after lots of procedures, particularly certain body contouring surgery such as breast reductions, tummy tucks, liposuctions, etc.
The most important thing is that the fluid does, in fact, come out, so as long as it is, it may be okay. If the skin continues to close and then the fluid builds up repeatedly you may want to consider having a drain inserted (to keep the fluid coming out). Otherwise you can, in fact, just let it heal up, as your PS suggests.
