Question

Forearm scars
Hello, I have a number of small scars on my forearm which were self inflicted when I was going through a difficult time as a teenager (10 years ago). I would like to have them removed, as the scars are not extremely obvious, but they are noticeable and embarrasing.  Some are slightly raised, but none have grown or changed in the past 10 years. All are a white-ish color. I am considering dermabrasion or laser removal; can you speak to the effectiveness of these treatments (or suggest alternatives that I might look into) on scars such as mine?
Thanks so much,
Christina

Answer
Greetings Christina,
Though I specialize in facial plastic surgery, I can speak generally about scar revisions. If these were on the face, I would suggest excising the wider scars and suturing them. Then, I think either dermabrasion or laser resurfacing would probably be a wise idea. Unfortunately, I'm not sure about doing either on the arm. My suggestion would be to find a plastic surgeon in your area and consult with him/her for further advice.
