Plastic Surgery - Scar tissue after remove chin implant

Expert: Alan M. Engler, MD, FACS - 4/29/2009

Question
Hello
I'm Mother of 38 years old  .
I had a chin implant 9 months ago (silicon - intraoral)
The doctor removed the implant 18 days later because was too big for me and put a little one....but 15 days later i was too swelling and i had to come back to Atlanta and he removed the implant completly.
2 days later i had a fluid inside and the doctor take out th fluid with a needle all looks good but 1 week later I had a hard golf ball in my chin.

Now is 9 months and is better and softer but still you can see a ball and the more deformity is right under my bottom lips for this reason I don't have the "S " form so I don't have de mentolabial sulcus...
I saw two doctors in Atlanta and they told me that Ihave a scar tissue and they wante to try with steroids.
Questions:
-Is the steroid work enough to have a normal S form
-Can I have a normal chin agai?
All this problem is a nightmare and I feel so depres because I don't know if I will come back to my pre-op.

Thank you a lot
Maria

Hi Maria,

I'm obviously sorry for the problems you're having.

It sounds like the right things have been done thus far; trying a smaller implant, removing that when even that didn't help, getting the wound closed, and now considering steroid injections.  The scar tissue may settle down on its own over time but, at 9 months, it's reasonable to try a little steroid.  A little - there are problems with too much.

The only other thing is that, now that you're healed, if you still have a deformity, you may want to reconsider trying to insert a SMALL chin implant.  I know that that sounds like the craziest idea, and you may not even want to consider it, but, in a way, that might be the best way to reshape the chin.

I know it's easy for me to say, but it's just a thought,

I hope that this helps, and good luck,

Dr. E
