Question Hello,
My daughter would like the cartiledge in her nose scraped to remove a bump. I know all surgery has risks, but with a board certified plastic surgeon, is this one of the more dangerous surgeries? I guess what I'm asking is should I try to talk my adult daughter out of this. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Lauren,
Talk your adult daughter out of something? I'm not even sure you could talk a younger daughter out of something...
Hundreds of thousands of plastic surgery procedures are performed annually, and the vast majority are without any sort of problems at all. Even when there are problems, they are usually minor. As you say, there are, in fact, risks associated with all procedures, but there are also risks associated with walking across the street, riding a bike, and many other things that we do, and take for granted, on a daily basis.
I can't really advise you on this and, with the understanding that as a plastic surgeon I have certain vested interests, I would say that the most useful thing someone can do is help with the research, in terms of both the procedure and the surgeons one is considering, and then be as supportive as possible throughout the decision-making process and, ultimately, of the various decision(s) that are made.
