Plastic Surgery/adverse effects of fat injections

Would you kindly advise if there is any recommended limit to the number of fat injections people should get?  I've had 12 fat injections into my lips (last one 7 years ago).  Fat is mostly still there. But I've developed a habit of chewing on my lips and between that and the injections, I am wondering if there is any connection between autologous fat in such a "sensitive place" and cancer or other long-term ill effects? I do have intermittent soreness, but that could be due to the chewing habit. Thank you for any information you can provide.

from Dr. Alan Engler

I don't think there's anything as simple as a number.  Each person's face is, obviously, unique and it changes with time.  Small amounts of fat injected sequentially would probably be the best approach.

And I'm not aware of a connection between number of fat injections and cancer; I've never come across any information in that regard.

I hope that this helps and good luck,
Dr. E
