Plastic Surgery/Pain associated with nose surgery

Sir does straightening the deviated nasal bone through surgery will cause pain once the effect of general anesthesia wears off?

from Dr. Alan Engler

Hi Humair,

There is, in general, pain post-operatively (after surgery) with nearly every surgical procedure.  Some are generally associate with relatively more pain (liposuction can be painful) and some with less.  A rhinoplasty ("nose job") is, in my experience, typically associate with relatively little pain.  There is certainly discomfort, and each case is individual, but my patients have often described it as "more pressure than pain."  Since the deviated nasal bone is, as you indicate, a bone (it's actually part bone and part cartilage), surgery to reposition it can be expected to produce some pain or discomfort, most of which is easily managed with some pain medication post-operatively.

You should of course discuss this with your own plastic surgeon.

I hope that this helps and good luck,
