Plastic Surgery/Nose reconstruction

Question
Dear doctor,
I have seen many photographs of people who have had nasal reconstruction done. My question is, is reconstruction limited to the septum and lower part of the nose? Or can the boney part be reconstructed too?
Regards
Ash

Answer
Hi Ash,

Rhinoplasty typically includes any and all of the aspects you mentioned; aesthetic (external) issues, the septum, lower portions of the nose, turbinates and polyps (to the extent that they're present). You should be examined in person by one or more board-certified plastic/ENT surgeons.  Tell them what you'd like accomplished, and then listen to what they recommend based on your exam.  Some things are easier to accomplish than others and a lot of that will depend on your anatomy.  Then, based on all of the above, you'll be able to make a more informed decision on how to proceed, and exactly what to do.
I hope that this helps and good luck,
