I am now one week into my recovery from breast augmentation.
I had 275cc round high profile implants, submuscular and via areola.
Nearly everything seems to be going well(not much pain and swelling seems to be going down) except that I have a large (9cm x 6cm) solid, black/purple bruise on the outside of each breast, around the incision where my drains were. This hematoma seems to be getting bigger.
I am due to fly back home in two days time and am now worried that this seems like a complication.
Do you think they will just disappear in time, or do you think that I will need surgical draining? If so, what does this procedure entail? How long does it take? How long before the bruising starts to fade? Is there a chance that these bruises are here for life? Is there anything I can do to help it get better on its own?
I had drains for 24hrs, and when these were removed, my Dr found it hard to stop the bleeding with just a plaster, so he gave me a couple of stitches to close the wound (stiches done without any sort of pain relief (OUCH to put it mildly!!).
I have started to take arnica pills and cream (which seems to have helped with the swelling).
The bruising doesnt seem to be giving me any pain, it doesnt feel hard and the swelling that I had a few days ago seems to have gone right down.
I know that there are quite a lot of questions, but I would be very grateful for your help.
Answer Please see your operating surgeon before you fly back home. It may be a condition that requires important but not major treatment now. After surgery it is best to direct such questions to the doctor who performed the surgery as I am sure he does care to know and will do whatever is necessary. Please keep me posted.
