Plastic Surgery - sagging face

Expert: Alan M. Engler, MD, FACS - 11/8/2004

Question
I am 53 and my skin is sagging on my face.
My jowls are loose and have big bags under eyes.
I don't want a face lift because of price and down time but is there anything else that
would firm up my facial skin and make me look at least 5 yrs younger.
I have used all kinds of creams<Murad,Lancome,
MD Forte,Este Lauder and Strivectin many others.
Of course none have worked.
Are there really any creams on the market that will tighten your face or do I reall need surgery.
What do you think is the best, cheapest, fastest.
Wish you were in Massachusetts.

Thanks
Debbie

Answer
Dear Debbie,

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but nobody would have a facelift if there were a cream that could do the same thing.  There simply isn't, and, while the creams can make you look better temporarily, it's mostly because of water retention (ie, they work as a moisturizer) or, if through a prescription, as an exfoliant (ie, they work like a very light peel).  But there is no way aside from the surgery to correct what I think you're describing.

I understand your concerns but before you decide that finally, you may want to go for a consultation or two, just to see if a smaller procedure might help you.  The About Thiw Website page of my site, www.bodysculpture.com, has links to several national plastic surgery sites that can help you find a doctor near you.  There are more than a few good ones in Massachusetts!

The best and fastest treatments will not be the cheapest, and there are, of course, risks with surgery, but you might as well know what your options really are, and not waste any more time with false hopes.

I hope this helps - good luck!
