About Arlene Schulman
Expertise
A professional stage director and dramaturg, I`m familiar with many plays of various types. I am particularly familiar with the plays of such playwrights as Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams and Neil Simon, and the musicals of Rodgers & Hammerstein, Sondheim, Jerry Herman and many other musicals, particularly those if the "Golden Age" before 1975. I am experienced in both staging and acting in comedy, drama and musicals, and can give you historical and staging information for most plays.

Experience
A professional stage director and dramaturg for over 25 years in the NYC/NJ area, I have directed and acted in over a hundred plays and musicals of all kinds. I have a huge theatre library and access to info on just about any play or musical, both historically and for staging purposes.

Plays - Jane Austen plays

Expert: Arlene Schulman - 7/25/2007

Question
I am looking for scripts of various Austen stories, specifically Sense and Sensibility. Would you have any suggestions for finding some?

Answer
Hi Anna,

There is a stage version of "Sense and Sensibility" adapted from the original Jane Austin book by Pamela Whalan.  She was commissioned by the international Jane Austin Society to bring all seven of her famous novels to the stage.  I am not sure which publisher carries this version.

There is another version dramatized by Ashley J. Barnard.  This one is published by Dramatic Publishing.  You can find them at their website - http://www.dramaticpublishing.com

There is also a play called "Sensibility and Sense" by Richard Nelson, which may or may not be a version of Jane Austin's book.  This one is published by Broadway Play Publishing.  Their website is http://www.broadwayplaypubl.com

Hope that helps.

Best,
Arlene (MsDirector)
