Expert: HONEY DO REPAIR AND REMODEL L.L.C.
Date: 6/29/2008
Subject: Moen shower/tub faucet cartridge,etc

Question
faucet leaking under handle- moen tells me it is the cartridge-- am thinking
of changing this myself-- also tub spout and shower head

Am I getting in over my head?  Any advice or cautions?  It is the 1225
cartridge, and the Monticello faucet. If the allen wrench does not work, I was
told to have a T15 torx screwdriver on hand.

Answer
It sounds like you are on the right track.  You are already ahead of most first timers. Just make sure you turn off the water to the house BEFORE changing out the cartridge, and pay VERY close attention to how the original cartridge is situated. Slowly remove it paying attention to all the parts and how they sit in the valve. Also pay attention to what should go inside first and what should be screwed in last.
