Plumbing in the Home/Replacing valve seat

Question
I tried to replace the valve seat in a 30 yr old Gerber bath assembly (three knobs) in a rent house. Used a valve seat wrench, as per instructions on the repair kit, but corrosion to bad and seat is in there to stay. Should I attempt to redress the seat, or is there another idea- other than replacing the whole works. I doused it liberally with wd40 to loosen, but so far not use.

Answer
well, 1st when u insert the seat wrench always tap on the end outside the faucet, this drive the wrench into the corrosion. you can get one of those reseat tools. i dont like them because they chew up the seat and make the washers wear faster, but it is cheaper than 500 for a new faucet installation.
you maybe able to call a professional out and he maybe able to get the damaged seat out. this usually cost around 150. for this repair, since its not urgent as of yet, call around and get prices before u go with a company. dont tell them you had problems getting the seat out, this may make them not want to try doing it.
