About Anthony - The Plumber
Expertise

I can answer most questions in the field of plumbing home repair for the inside or outside property of a home including irrigation systems, septic systems, well water systems, recirculation systems and I can address these questions from a beginning plumbing standpoint or for someone who has more advanced skills.

Are you working on an addition or remodelling? Need some bathroom or kitchen design ideas?

Run your questions by me since I enjoy that challenge of remodelling & new construction projects.

Experience
I have worked on a variety of major projects including Home Depot as an outsourced Project Manager tasked to repair the fire system at the Fullerton/Placentia store and distribution center in Orange County. I believe in simplifying any task I am assigned in order to avoid wasting time and material, while I always look for the simplest solution possible to the issue and then I execute my plan. Having lead many construction crews, large and small, I have been involved in residential and commercial repair and remodel projects including medical facilities, new home construction, high rises and apartment complexes. Building maintenance work in condominium complexes from Playa del Rey to Beverly Hills to the Hollywood Hills are a speciality. I have completed many maintenance work projects at complexes great and small.

Plumbing in the Home - Changing existing gas line location

Expert: Anthony - The Plumber - 11/6/2009

Question
I don't expect you to know our local codes :)  I will be getting with my city for all applicable permits.

I have moved my kitchen.  The last thing to do is move an existing gas line to a different location.  I have a plummer that is able to do all the connections (it's like working on the car brakes...nothing I will do because of potential "bad things" happening)  If code allows it, I want to run flex line down to the basement for my connections.   Is this an unusual application? does this normally need to be a "hard" pipe?

If my area does allow this type of application, can you direct me to a place online to purchase the line?  I got a quote on it from the plummer, and it seems to me that the price is extremely high.  I get that the labor will cost and have no problem paying for his time and expertise, but I would like to at lease compare pricing on the materials.

Thank you

Answer
Anna Lee,

Thank you for this question.

Whenever a repair or remodel needs to be completed for natural or propane gases,
an experienced plumbing professional should be hired to avoid "mistakes", which
can be costly in terms of money and lives lost.

Using flexible piping for your application can be used if approved by your local
building officials, however, it needs to be either plastic piping that is heat-sealed
or steel flexible tubing that has an auto-flare component to it.

Otherwise, all the piping, except for where it ties to the fixture, must be solid black
pipe.

I would do a bit more investigating with your local authorities to determine the appropriate
materials for your project.

Let me know what you find out.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Anthony
