Question
We (group of friends) rented a vacation home just a few days back

Here is what happened. Before taking a shower my wife placed her ring on the closed toilet cover so that she could get it back soon as she gets out of the shower. For some reason, she forgot to do so. No one knew what happened after that.. We headed out back home the last day of the getaway vacation. My wife suddenly realized that she forgot to take the ring back from the toilet cover when we headed out.

We rushed back to the bathroom upstairs as quickly as we could
That is when.. the reverse engineering of the story started. Two or three people had gone to take shower and use the toilet in the same bathroom after my wife used the shower. One of the friends remembered seeing the ring on the side rim of the pot when she went for a shower.. and believe it or not.. she also forgot to tell my wife cos her 2 year old son was crying frantically outside and she had to rush outside to take care of him.

When we looked for the ring in the bathroom and could not find it, we obviously were extremely disappointed to learn that the ring was gone. I put my hand inside the pot just to make sure it was not lying there. We checked the floor throughly, the mats throughly and repeatedly. Finally.. we called the plumber.. It was sunday and we hit his voicemail. Checked everywhere.. all the garbage bags were re retrieved from the friends car. Chances of getting it back were almost nil while my wife was crying like a baby and blaming herself. I was convincing her to make her feel better.

Finally.. after a long time we finally thought of leaving for home after we called the lanlord who said that it goes to the sewer directly.. My another friend went upstairs to pee and I knew that it was okay now to flush the toilet as it doesnt matter anymore.

Another friends wife was feeling unwell and was feeling little bit like vomiting. She went to the toilet **downstairs** and flushed the toilet before she used it. She heard a metal clunking sound as she flushed.

She shouted "THE RING IS HERE !!!!". I ran from outside where we were getting ready to leave (my wife still in tears). What we saw only could amaze us. The ring was neatly sitting in the toilet bowl. My wife hugged everyone with tears in her eyes while I retrieved the ring with my bare hands.. Didnt feel bad at all.

We all are in shock and could not believe our luck and could not understand what happened. It was an unbelievable experience. All my school friends witnessed as I slipped the ring back in my wifes hand.

I dont have ANY idea how could it happen.. We all are still wondering.. Do you know how the pipes are set or do you have a diagram of the toilet pipes of a house which has two toilets right above one another??. We would really like to know how it really could have happened.

I dont think I can write everything that we felt but the experience we had was just unbelievable! All of us only talked about the ring while we headed back. Thanks to the friend who went to pee upstairs and thanks to the girl who was unwell and just flushed the toilet downstairs. Thanks to the plumbing! Please let me know if you have an explaination.

Yeah.. Got lucky.

Answer
Viral Dalal,

Wow! What a story!

Thank you so much for sharing this story.  My wife had a similar experience when we
were first married and unfortunately DID NOT have the same outcome.

Needless to say, I had to replace the ring later.

Judging by what you've written, the ring may have been at the toilet all along.

Here's what may have happened:

After you're wife's ring was spied by the woman with the crying baby on the toilet,
the wind of closing the door or passing by the toilet could have brushed the ring
into the cavity behind the handle and when the toilet was flushed a second time,
the ring dropped into the bowl.

An alternative could be that the ring dropped behind the toilet seat and when the toilet
was flushed the ring dropped in (ergo the plop sound).

In any case congrats to you and your wife and I will save this as a story that proves
miracles do occur.

Regards,

Anthony
