Plumbing in the Home/moving shower drain

Question
Remolding a bathroom on a slab. I understand moving the toilet is a major deal. How about a shower. Would love to remove shower stall and replace it with tub. But the drains wouldn't match up. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Christie,
Moving any plumbing waste under a slab is a big deal. You will need to break the slab, re-work the drains to where you want them and re-pour the slab.  For a tub drain we "box out" a 12-14 inch square section of pour so it is not filled in by the concrete. In other words, we leave a hole.  This allows room for the tub waste and p-trap. This is generally not a do it yourself job unless you are very skilled at this sort of thing.  It very hard to fix an "Oops". LOL
Good Luck,
Dana

Expertise

Pretty much any residential plumbing questions. For "item specific" details such as a specific model of fixture, I will need to research and there may not be any useful information available. Note: I live and work in Southern California. We do not, as a rule, use hot water or steam heating systems, oil fired boilers or private water wells so my knowledge in those areas is pretty limited. There are others here on AllExerts that can probably answer those questions better.
