Question QUESTION: I live in a hundred year old building. I have the original sink in the kitchen: a porcelain double-sink, two faucets in each vessel. The faucets come straight out of the back of the sink. The ones I want to replace are 14 inches apart, centre to centre, and I'd like to replace them with one unit with two handles and a spout. I can't afford much: this is an apartment, and I live on a fixed income. I've been looking around for inexpensive fixtures, but can't find anything with centres than span wider than 10 inches or so. Any ideas?
ANSWER: Marie,
Sorry I didn't answer this question for you right away.
I was waaaay too busy.
These are separate valves that you can usually find at a local
plumbing supply house or a well-stocked hardware store.

QUESTION: Separate valves? I'm looking to replace two faucets with one unit that mixes hot and cold water. The existing faucets are 14 inches apart, centre to centre; they come out of the back of the sink, not on top. I've searched on the net and can't find any that are have a 14 inch span. Could you please explain what you means by separate valves?
Answer Marie,
Sorry to have been a bit vague.
A 14 inch spread for a faucet of this type is typically no longer made.
I too have looked high and low on the web to help locate a replacement,
but have found none.
What I meant before was that you may have to get two separate valves to
replace this unit, however, they will not be able to mix the water as
you had before.
Some of the manufacturer's like Kohler, American Standard, Price Pfister
and Chicago Faucets may have the type of faucets I'm referring to.
I have one more idea: Chicago Faucets makes a variety of specialty
faucets for commercial applications. Perhaps you can call their
customer service line and ask them for a possible lead on a 14 inch
widespread faucet.
