Plumbing in the Home/wall mount tub and shower diverter

Question
Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my question. I have a 30 year old Emco or Waltec tub shower and pull out diverter unit. They are combined in one unit. The diverter all of a sudden is not giving positive shut off, about equal amounts of water come out of the tub spout and shower head.
The diverter has a small screw on the small rectangle handle but I do not know how to get the diverter out without taking the entire unit off the wall. I am assuming that since it happened all of a sudden there is a small piece of dirt or something lodged in it. Help!

Answer
Tom,

These type of valves can rarely be fixed.

May I suggest replacing the valve assembly with a more modern unit?

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Anthony
