Plumbing in the Home/hot water tank on vacation

Question
When leaving for an extended period (6 mo +/_) is it better to drain the tank or leave it full?  gas will be turned off and the water is hard.

Answer
Bill, There is a setting on the gas valve that turns that turns the tank off.   I would leave the tank full and turn the valve to the  off position. Unless you are turning the gas off as well, leave the pilot on. If it is an electric tank, kill the power but leave the tank full.
