Plumbing in the Home/Toilet is making funny noise

My toilet makes a constant trickling noise, and when I look under the lid I can see a very small water flow going down into the bowl. Is this something I can fix myself?
Thank you!

Dear Kate,

This repair is not too difficult if you have some mechanical skill.  The problem is with the fill valve inside the tank.  It is connected to the small pipe beneath the tank which is connected to the shut off valve.  Be sure to turn off the water and empty the tank before removing the old fill valve.  The new fill valve may look quite different from what you have now, but do not worry... the new one will work fine for you.  I suggest getting a "Fluid Master" brand fill valve, if the old supply tube beneath the tank seems old then you may want to replace it also.

The only tools you would need would be a pair of pliers, and a small crescent wrench.  The instructions for removal and installation will be included inside the box but please feel free to ask if you have any further questions.  I apologize for the delay in responding.

I am experienced at troubleshooting and solving all types of plumbing problems. Issues related to specific manufacturers fixtures and specifications though are beyond my field of expertise. I have dealt with problems in both rural and urban areas, and with water supply and drainage systems. Plumbing issues can be very obscure... such as odors, stains or occasional seepage. I have even had to chase rats from a customer's sewer line.

I have 25 years experience dealing with plumbing systems (which also includes hot water and steam heating systems). My main expertise is in diagnosing and solving problems. I have worked in construction and installation of new systems but do not regard myself as an expert in that area.
