Plumbing in the Home/Water Pressure Tank

Question
I have a well pump and pressure tank and at the moment whenever water is used the, I am assuming the pressure tank keeps coming on and off giving a constant clicking noise every 4-5 seconds and does this for about 1/2 hour. do I need to replace the pressure tank? it is only 7 years old

Answer
If the pump is clicking on and off when your using water; but turns off and stays off when you stop using water, it's most likely the tank.

If it's a bladder tank, (painted not shiny silver colored) push on the top trying to rock it sideways just a little.  If it's light, it's good.  If it's very heavy, it's bad.

Experience

I started drilling and repairing wells and pumps with my dad in 1958 at the age of 13 years. I worked with him on weekends and in the summer when not in school. After graduating high school, I worked for my Dad until going into the Army in 1968. I spent three years in the Army then went back into the Well Drilling/Repair field.
