Plumbing in the Home - Bathroom faucet & shower hot water pressure problem

Expert: Leo Luczak - 7/13/2006

Question
Hi,
   The faucet brand is MOEN. It has a single lever faucent for hot and cold water. As I turn the knob counter-clockwise from the right, the water turns from cold to hot. If you could let me know how to replace the cartridge & how to shut off the water supply before fixing (there's  a water meter in my laundry room), I would greatly appreciate.

thanks

Question -
Hi,
    I bought this 1997 built house a year ago and had no problems with the hot water pressure so far. But since the last few days , the hot water pressure in the common bathroom tub faucet & shower has gone down drastically by 70%. Hot water pressure in the bath-tub in the second bathroom attached to the bedroom is fine and so is the hot water pressure in the kitchen, sinks etc. The low pressure is only with the tub faucet & shower of one of the bathrooms. The cold water pressure is perfectly fine and not an issue. Do you know why this has happened and how I could fix this on my own ? You suggestions and explanations would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Answer -
Is there a shutoff valve for the tub faucet and shower?   If so try turning on the hot water full blast and then colsing and reopening the valve all the way.  Maybe something has partially blocked the valve opening.

Other than that you may need to replace the cartridge in the tub/shower fixture as it may have failed.  If you tell me the brand and type I'll tell you how to replace the cartridge.

Answer
I would turn off all the water to the house at the water meter and remove the cartridge as shown here;

Take the cartridge to Home Depot or Lowes and they will match it with one thata fits your fixture.
